There’s no doubt that 2020 was a rough year. However, there were lots of foundation releases in 2020 that impressed me. There was a foundation released for all types of occasions and skin types. I know I’ll be using them throughout the new year and wanted to share my favourites with you. I’ve gathered my top five favourite foundation releases and I promise you, you will find something you like from this list.
1. Best Matte Foundation: NARS Soft Matte Complete Foundation

I’m not usually a fan of matte foundations, but I absolutely loved the NARS Soft Matte Complete Foundation. It’s full coverage and doesn’t dry out my combination skin. You can layer on powders without making the skin look cakey. The micro-algae and bio hyaluronic acid help absorb oil. It feels lightweight on the skin and is long-lasting. What I love about this foundation is that it gives a blurring effect to the skin. I prefer using brushes to apply my foundation, but I like applying this one with a sponge. If you’re a makeup artist or travelling, the plastic bottle is ideal for travel.
2. Best Foundation with a Natural Finish: IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better Foundation + Skincare

I raved about this foundation in my Fall 2020 Beauty Launches article and I have to mention it again because I love it so much. I love the way my skin looks and feels with this foundation. It’s not full coverage like their CC Cream, but the medium coverage gives your skin a healthy glow. It feels super lightweight on the skin and is made with skincare ingredients like hyaluronic acid, hepes acid and vitamins E and B5. The only thing I don’t like is the pump; it’s messy, but I can look past it because I like the foundation that much.
3. Best Foundation with a Satin Finish: MAKE UP FOR EVER Reboot Active Care Revitalizing Foundation

This is a great foundation for makeup artists to use on models. It’s not full coverage, but evens out the skin tone beautifully. If you’re okay with medium coverage and like a satin finish, then you will love this foundation. My skin has never looked as healthy, radiant, or smoother. It’s lightweight, long-lasting, and hydrating. I would suggest this foundation to people with combination or dry skin. I have combination skin and use powder in my t-zone to prevent it from getting oily. It does have a very strong perfume-esque scent, but looks stunning on the skin.
4. Best Stick Foundation: HUDA BEAUTY #FauxFilter Skin Finish Buildable Coverage Foundation Stick

Huda Beauty came out with a foundation stick and I am obsessed. Its goal was to come out with a more natural looking foundation as opposed to their #FauxFilter Full Coverage Matte Foundation. The formula is super creamy and blends into the skin like a dream. You can build the coverage to your liking and it evens out your skin tone beautifully. I love that it’s fragrance-free and long-lasting. You can get a natural finish or go full glam and wear it to a special event.
5. Best Drugstore Foundation: L’Oreal Infallible Fresh Wear 24HR Foundation

This foundation performs like a high end foundation. If I didn’t know better, I never would’ve guessed this is a drugstore foundation. It has a thin consistency and gives you amazing coverage. It’s long-lasting and doesn’t transfer. It has a beautiful natural matte finish, but because my skin is really dry right now, I use a hydrating primer. If you have oily skin, I would use a mattifying primer. It has a strong fragrance, but blends easily and feels super lightweight on the skin. It also gives the skin a blurring effect. It’s a great foundation for mature skin. If you’re looking for a good, affordable foundation, you need to try this one.
