Entertainment News Weekly Roundup: The Good, The Bad & Everything In Between

Happy holidays!

It’s the season that keeps on giving (mostly debt from all the holiday shopping and amazing deals). We may be (should be) celebrating the holidays a bit differently this year, due to the pandemic, but not all traditions are lost.

If you’re a lamb – a Mariah Carey fan – it’s her season of giving and regifting us the everlasting joy of “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” It’s her time to shine, yet again. And just like every other year, 2020 has been no different for the Christmas jingle that continues to break records. She has reclaimed the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100! Read all about her record-breaking tune here.

If you’re not a fan of holiday music or tend to get annoyed by the holly-jolly radio stations and their never-ending playlists, just remember: the season only lasts a few weeks. It will end as quickly as it started and right when you’re about to switch to another station (again), Christmas is over and the songs get buried beneath the top hits of the new year.

Anyway, the official holiday (virtual) gatherings have yet to truly begin, but my gift to you is this week’s entertainment news – the good, the bad and everything in between – all beautifully wrapped into one post with a ribbon on it. You’re welcome.

The Good

Happy 50th birthday to Regina Hall! The ageless beauty celebrated a milestone birthday and in true queen fashion, she released a song on Instagram – and I can’t get it out of my head! It’s a catchy tune and the lyrics are award-worthy. Someone, give her a Grammy already.

Speaking of queens, Lizzo did one of those smoothie detox diets and posted her results. Of course there was criticism and backlash mainly about her potentially promoting diet culture. As always, and rightfully so, she clapped back on Instagram explaining how she recently fell off a healthier lifestyle and wants to get back on track. She said, “I’m so proud of myself, I’m proud of my results, my sleep has improved, my hydration, my inner peace, my mental stability, my f—ing body, my f—ing skin, the whites of my eyes.” She added, “Every big girl should do whatever the f— they want with their bodies.” Period.

The Bad

Taylor Swift released her second album of 2020, a follow-up to folklore titled evermore, which is amazing news. If you’ve listened to or read reviews, then you know that Swifties (myself included) are in heaven. Taylor always leaves Easter eggs around for her fans and the theories can get pretty wild. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Tay was on Jimmy Kimmel Live and nixed the idea of woodvale (seen in the folklore cover art) being a third “sister” album to folklore and evermore. After releasing the name of Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively’s third daughter in folklore‘s “Betty,” fans were suspicious of evermore‘s “Dorothea” and jumped to conclusions. According to TMZ, Dorothea is not the name of Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik’s baby girl.

Everything in Between

Good news for Kylie Jenner, but just plain old entertainment news for the rest of the world: Kylie was named the highest-paid celebrity of 2020 by Forbes. Despite the pandemic, she earned $590 million; that’s $420 million more than 2020’s second highest-paid celeb, Kim K,’s hubby Kanye West. In fact, Kylie earned more than the rest of the top five combined. She’s also the only female in the top 10 earners. If you have some time, take a look at the top 100 – you might be as surprised as I was to see who made the list and who didn’t.

Shawn Mendes opened up to Dax Shepard on his podcast Armchair Expert and addressed the rumours about him being gay. He says all the right things in a very empathetic way and understanding of the fact that even though he’s suffered, his issues aren’t comparable to what the LGBTQ+ community faces daily. I honestly didn’t realize this was still a topic of discussion since he’s been dating Camila Cabello, but it’s obviously taken a toll on him over the years. I think this statement sums up how he felt: “You want to say, ‘I’m not gay, but it’d be fine if I was gay – but also there’s nothing wrong with being gay, but I’m not.'”

Pete Davidson is actually really funny, but he’s kind of an acquired taste. He grows on you; at least that’s how it happened for me. Anyway, he recently met a fan named Arianna and said, “Well hello, let’s get married.” Obviously, it was a poke at his whirlwind relationship with singer Ariana Grande, but hilarious nonetheless. Watch the interaction on TikTok! We love someone who can laugh at themselves and joke about their own past.
