Entertainment News Weekly Roundup: The Good, The Bad & Everything In Between

Well, it’s that time of the year: the end. It’s the time to reflect on the past year and everything that the pandemic has given (or taken from) us. It’s also the time when most outlets release top 10s or “best of 2020” lists. I definitely have a top 10 list for celebs who should have followed pandemic rules, as well as best rule-breaking parties of 2020.

If you’re interested, the most liked photos on Instagram include a bunch of Kylie Jenner/Stormi Webster and some soccer players. The top 10 also included some empowering photos of Kobe Bryant and Chadwick Boseman, both of whom we tragically lost this past year. The newest addition to the ranking is Ariana Grande’s engagement announcement.

No matter the year, we know that the celebrities we love, as well as the ones we love to hate will always be around to keep us entertained. So, for the last time in 2020, we’ve got the last bit of entertainment news to tie you over until the new year. Here’s the good, the bad and everything in between.

The Good

Beyonce is the queen of everything, including Christmas! As the perfect farewell to 2020, she gifted the perfect necklace (see below) to her girls. It’s 2020 in the shape of a hand with the middle finger sticking up.

Emma Roberts gave birth to a baby boy named Rhodes, her first child with actor Garrett Hedlund. Buzzfeed rounded up the celebs who got pregnant and/or had a baby in 2020. They couldn’t all be as stealth as Mindy Kaling and Constance Wu, who secretly and separately, gave birth during the year of the pandemic, but congratulations to them all!

The Bad

Have you ever heard of Hillary Hayward-Thomas? I certainly had not heard the name before this past week. It’s probably because she now goes by the name Hilaria Baldwin. She’s Alec Baldwin’s wife and together they have five children, all aged seven and under. So, you may be wondering why that’s important. There has almost never been anything relevant or important about Hilaria and her family, until now. Hilaria is social media’s new target because it seems that the story of her background is constantly changing. Her inconsistent accent, as well as her miscommunications about where she is actually from are two of the things that lead to the belief that she’s a foreigner. So, in true celeb-fashion, she went on Instagram to clear things up and confirmed that she’s a white woman from Boston. Her confession seems to confuse things even more and social media trolls are digging far back into her past life, to which she fibbed about before. If you ask me, the best things to come out of this irrelevant debacle is Amy Schumer’s (now deleted) post mocking Hilaria and the resurfaced video of Hilaria on Today (see below), trying to think of the English word for cucumber. If you want to watch her full confession on Instagram, be warned: it’s lengthy and doesn’t clear up much except for the fact that she identifies as a white woman.

Everything in Between

Is it just me or did Lori Loughlin’s prison sentence seem to go by extremely fast? Regardless, she’s done her time and after almost two months, she is now a free woman. Her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, is still serving his time; both were sentenced following the college admissions scandal back in May. Is it just me, or does it feel like the scandal happened years ago? This has been a very odd year!

Anwar Hadid is a model, brother of supermodels Gigi and Bella Hadid and boyfriend of Dua Lipa – that’s a lot to unload. Someone on Instagram recently asked him if he was going to get the COVID-19 vaccine, to which he responded, “absolutely not” and continued, “Either I just don’t get it [Coronavirus] or I get it and God willing heal from it and get antibodies rather than do that process unnaturally.” Well, obviously, he needed to backtrack on that statement as many were quick to label him “anti-vax.” Basically, he’s not anti-vaccines, he didn’t mean to offend anyone and he is open to learning about protecting himself and others. That’s all.

Jennifer Aniston came under some holiday heat when she decided to post a picture of an ornament engraved with “our first pandemic 2020.” Many called it insensitive, considering the many, many people worldwide who lost their lives to the virus. Personally, I’m confused about why so many have taken offense to Jenn’s ornament. It’s definitely not the first one I’ve seen. Have you seen the toilet paper ornaments; so relatable and funny. From the jump, Rachel Jennifer has been advocating for safer and stricter procedures during the pandemic. Quite frankly, there are bigger fish to fry and other celebs to lecture. I just hope she supported a small business when she shopped for her quarantine decorations.
