It’s official! Sephora Canada is bringing back its annual Lunar New Year campaign for its fifth consecutive year.
Just like last year’s Diwali festival campaign, the Lunar New Year celebration will be featured as part of Sephora Canada’s We Belong To Something Beautiful campaign aimed to celebrate diversity and inclusivity. The 15 day-long festival kicks off on February 12, but shoppers can already benefit from promo deals and limited edition beauty and skincare goods, and can even send virtual Lunar New Year “red envelope” gift cards as per the tradition of the festival’s monetary gift.
From NARS, MAC Cosmetics and Gucci, to well-known K-beauty lines LANEIGE and Sulwhasoo, brands went all out with limited-edition red-colored designs – the official color of Chinese New Year and symbol of joy, prosperity and good fortune. If you’re unsure what to get or gift, Sephora gathered a set of 12 skincare, hair, and fragrance favorites including products from LaMer, Tatcha, and SK-II.
Sephora Canada puts two Chinese Canadian influencers on the scene for the campaign’s imagery and visuals both online and in select stores via videos. Angel Zheng and Brigitte Truong will share stories about how meaningful the festival is to them and how they celebrate alongside family and loved ones.
“The holiday is an important time for our immediate and extended family to come together to enjoy food, love and the exchange of red envelopes,” says Truong, a first-generation Chinese Canadian, seen photographed with her mother on campaign imagery. “More importantly, it’s a time for us to really pay homage to our loved ones who have passed on: Family gatherings allow us to honour the blessings they gave us when they were still with us.”
For Vancouver-based Zheng, the Lunar New Year and beauty go hand-in-hand: “I look forward to this time of the year because the family gets bolder with the colour red: red lipstick, eyeshadow, jewelry, and clothing. Red represents joy, happiness and good luck — three things we all strive for”.
