Spring Cleaning & Organizing Tips

Springtime is just around the corner and nothing like a good spring cleaning to declutter your house and get you ready for the summer. The thought of getting your entire home cleaned can be a little overwhelming, however, with the tips we’ve rounded up, we hope to make cleaning and organizing easier for you!

1. Declutter your space

Before actually getting to the cleaning part, declutter everything you can from the room. This means not only making a donation pile to get rid of everything that doesn’t serve you anymore but also moving everything out of the room, such as furniture and carpet, so you can get deep into cleaning.

2. Cleaning

After you declutter your space, it’s time to start cleaning! A few products you may need are:

– Dish soap
– Baking soda
– White vinegar
– Salt
– Lemon
– Rubbing alcohol
– A spray bottle

Make sure to use the proper product to clean each area, room, and furniture.

3. Rethink your space

When organizing after cleaning, it’s always good to reconsider the room. Is the space functional? Do you need a change? Consider every possibility before putting everything back on, it may change the whole energy of the room!

If you’re not sure what to do, but still want a change, check for tips in feng shui, as this practice can help with the flow of the room and its energy.

4. Don’t forget the windows

During the months until spring, a lot of dust and pollen can stick to your windows, so it’s necessary that you clean them. Also, it will allow the sun to enter and light up the room more!

For a homemade window cleaning solution, you can use ¼ cup of white vinegar mixed with two cups of warm water. Put the mix in a spray bottle and you have the perfect product to clean your windows.

5. Clean your furniture

Just because you don’t see the dirt, it doesn’t mean it’s not there. Dust all of your furniture (no exceptions!), including your couch.

For your couch, you can go to your preferred hardwood store and rent a cleaning machine. However, if you don’t want to spend the money, you may want to at least take the cushions off and vacuum the whole couch.

6. Clean and flip your mattress

Nothing like spring cleaning to take upon the opportunity to flip your mattress. But also, make sure to give it a good clean.

First, you can vacuum both sides, to make sure to take off all the dust and hair that it may have accumulated over the months. Then, if possible, put it out in the sun for some fresh air and sunlight for a few hours.

7. Clean lightbulbs

It turns out that a dirty lightbulb will emit 20% less light than a clean one. So since you’re on the cleaning path already, take some time to wipe your lightbulbs with a damp microfiber cloth. It’s an easy and very quick task that will make a lot of difference!

8. Remove grime from the bathroom

If you need to remove grime from showers and tubs, and want to give an extra fresh boost to your bathroom, use a mix of salt with grapefruit!

9. Clean your refrigerator

You may not have thought about it at first, but it’s very important to clean your refrigerator once in a while. For that, you will need to empty and unplug your fridge and refrigerator first.

For this process, you want to look for expired products, crumbs, and grime. To clean the fridge, you can use a mix of 1 tablespoon of baking soda and a quart of hot water.

The great thing about cleaning your refrigerator is that you can organize it as well. When in a hurry sometimes you may not really care about where you’re placing products, so you can use this time to adjust those adjustable shelves and look up how to store your food to keep everything fresh for longer.

10. Wash floors last

After you have cleaned absolutely everything else, you may need a final clean on your floor. If you want a homemade floor cleaner you can use:

– ½ cup of white vinegar
– 3 drops of dish soap
– ¼ cup of rubbing alcohol
– 2 cups of warm water
– 10-20 drops of essential oil for scent
