It is a great day to start supporting black-owned businesses and believe me they know great coffee. Read below to find out our top 4 personal favourite places to stop by in the city.
1. Mocha Café and Pastry, 1290 Danforth Ave, Toronto, Ont.
Perfect for a Danforth local, located near Greenwood station, this cafe is open until 10 p.m. daily. It is a perfect place to study or relax and serves delicious Ethiopian coffee, desserts and sandwiches. Don’t forget to try the traditional breakfast, Foul (mashed beans, sautéed with onion hot pepper and butter/oil and yogurt).
2. The Loveless Café, 1430 Dundas St W, Toronto, Ont.
At the Loveless Café, you can have a coffee sitting on the cozy couches and watch the rain or have your pick of their collection of draft beers and cocktails. Pro tip: listen to Coffee Cup by Anthony Lazaro while you’re here, it’s the perfect place for it.
3. Congo Coffee & Beignet, 371 Front St W, Toronto, Ont.
Gourmet drip coffee with some beignet, also known as doughnuts, who wouldn’t like that? This cafe also comes highly recommended by BlogTO. You should also try some of their amazing cold coffee options as soon as possible because winter is coming!
4. Bu’na: The Soul of Coffee, 1176, Queen St. W, Toronto, Ont
Another Ethiopian gem, located on Queen St., Bu’na serves its coffee with beans that are freshly roasted daily. Coffee lovers will also delight in the intoxicating aroma of the place. Due to Covid-19, they have collaborated with Nunu Ethiopian Fusion restaurant, so don’t forget to try their coffee too when you visit.
