Summer has arrived and we know that the best place to find your next reading list is on TikTok. However, to save you some time from scrolling through the app looking for viral books, we have rounded up must-read books.
Of course, there are some books that have been viral on TikTok for a while, but if you haven’t read them yet, this is your sign. The three top books are “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo”, “The Last Mrs. Parrish”, and “Red, White and Royal Blue”.
“The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” is probably the most famous among the three. In fact, it’s so famous that recently Netflix announced it’s becoming a movie on the platform. The fiction novel is about the Old Hollywood star Evelyn Hugo, who accumulated seven husbands over the years. One day, she decides to come clean about her story and demands a very specific journalist to write her biography. The whole story flows by and hooks the readers from the very beginning. After all, there’s a reason this book is so well known even by those who aren’t on TikTok.
“The Last Mrs. Parrish” is one of the most talked about books in the last year due to its very unexpected plot twist. This thriller will keep you hooked from the first to the last page, especially if you like stories such as “Gone Girl.” In a few words without spoilers, the story is about Amber Patterson, an invisible woman that envisions who she wants to be: Daphne Parrish.
Entertainment Weekly said “Red, White and Royal Blue” is “A fireworks in the sky, glitter in your hair, joyous royal romance. A+” and nothing could sum up this book better than this. After all, we’re talking about a book written about the romance between the son of the president of the United States and the Prince of Wales, so naturally, you’re in for a great story.
Now, if you want books that were already turned into a TV show, so you can get more details from the written stories, you will find that in “One of Us Is Lying” and “Heartstopper”.
You will enjoy “One of Us is Lying” if you like investigative books about crimes with a twist. Also, you will be eager to read the book after you know what’s about: five kids go to detention. Only four come out alive. Who killed the kid? A kid who was hated by so many in his school? You’ll have to read to find out. As mentioned, this book turned into a tv show, which is now available on Netflix with a few changes from the book, but still amazing to watch.
About “Heartstopper”, it’s needless to say much. Not only have the books gone viral, but the Netflix TV show as well. The best part is that it recently got renewed for two more seasons.
Now, for our last category of viral TikTok books, we have lighthearted romance, the ones you can read in just one sit. These are “Beach Read”, “People We Meet on Vacation” and “The Unhoneymooners”, all in the summer and vacation themes.
In “Beach Read”, a bestselling romance writer goes to a beach house to work on her next book, meeting a literary fiction author. Together, they get through their writer’s block in a very beautifully written story that goes beyond just the romance.
From the same author, “People We Meet on Vacation” is about two former best friends who used to go on vacation together every year until their friendship fell apart. Now, one friend wants to convince the other to go on one last vacation and rehash everything that went wrong. This book is witty, fun, and just adorable. A little different than your usual romantic romance.
Finally, we have “The Unhoneymooners”, starting off with a maid of honor and a best man’s mutual hate for each other, who end up on their sister and brother’s honeymoon together pretending to be them. It’s a very cheesy yet fun rom-com to read and it only gets better as you get to know the characters more deeply along with the story.
If TikTok has blessed us with anything, it’s booktok. Now, we have an amazing resource to look for new books for every type of person and every type of summer. We hope we gave you great ideas to add to your reading list for the next season!
