Silk is growing in trend, and it’s more than just for beauty and looks… Read about this year’s obsession and why you should jump on it ASAP.
I don’t know about you, but I just fell IN LOVE with silk.
I recently was gifted a silk pajama set and it’s become my favourite nighttime outfit (and Saturday morning attire). I also gifted myself a silk pillowcase that has become my most prized possession. Aside from looking très chic and being oh-so-comfortable, there are many other reasons why you need silk in your life!
Whether you sleep on a silk pillowcase or wear silk pajamas, your hair and skin will thank you. For one, silk’s tightly woven and smooth fibers help keep moisture close to the skin, leaving it more hydrated than cotton. Free of chemical irritants that cause environmental allergens, silk is also great for those with sensitive skin and skin conditions.
Have a yeast infection? Research shows that wearing silk underwear reduces redness and itching associated with recurring vaginal yeast infections. Experiencing menopause? Silk’s light, breathable qualities help reduce the heat and especially make for a more comfortable night’s sleep. And menopause or not, sleeping in silk reduces the interferences usually caused by sheets that irritate your skin, bunch up, or invite dust mites in. Plus, it reduces the “sleep wrinkles” that form on your face while you sleep.
Another benefit to sleeping on silk: silky smooth hair. Compared to cotton pillowcases, silk will keep your hair soft, moisturized, and tangle-free, without contributing to further hair damage. The smoothness of the material helps to maintain natural moisture in your skin and hair, allowing it to stay hydrated, especially in dry, winter months.
Silk has proven well for COVID times too. According to researchers as reported by Fox News, silk is proven to be a breathable, viable option for face masks. Silk has qualities similar to surgical face masks as they both offer effective moisture barriers. Silk’s natural antimicrobial, antibacterial and antiviral properties can quickly repel and filter moisture droplets, even better than cotton varieties.
Bringing so much value to our lives, in health, sleep and style, silk is definitely worth the investment. Plus, the material’s natural durability and resistant quality leave you feeling good about a purchase that won’t keep running you dry.
